On the Street... by Chuck Haney
The new Comfort Inn & Suites in the Stoneybrooke Shopping Center at Business 36 and U.S. 36 is getting closer to its official opening date, according to franchise co-owners Spike and Scott Ehrhardt.
In regard to that opening later in February, the co-owners announced the name of the new general manager of the facility and it has a local tie or two.
Meagan Macoubrie has joined Ehrhardt Hospitality as its general manager.
Mrs. Macoubrie is a 2007 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Following graduation, Mrs. Macoubrie joined Enterprise Rent A Car Co., in Scottsdale, Ariz. After completing the firm’s management training program, she was promoted to branch manager and operated two offices in the Phoenix area. She was recognized several times by the company for her sales and marketing abilities.
This past summer Meagan married Brooks Macoubrie, son of Dana Macoubrie and grandson of David and Darla Macoubrie. The couple has moved to Chillicothe. Brooks is an apprentice funeral director at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
While at the University of Missouri Meagan was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and volunteered her time to several organizations including Special Olympics, Big Brother/Big Sisters and the Champions Are Readers (CARS) Literacy program.
The Ehrhardts said they are excited about opening their new 62-room three-story Comfort Inn Suites in Chillicothe later this month and are also pleased that they have acquired a general manager like Mrs. Macoubrie and are looking forward to being a part of the community.
The Macoubries enjoy traveling and outdoor activities, including jet skiing.

I received an email last week from Lindy Chapman, executive director of the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce asking that I mention the Chamber banquet and winners of the awards in my next column. I missed the Chamber banquet because of illness, but I told her I already had planned to mention and the award winners and the dance contestants.
Six awards were presented at the annual Chamber banquet along with Business Lighting Contest award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award established three years ago and one that may be given each year went to Paul Steele. He joins previous winners Ed Milbank, John Irvin and the late Mildred Litton.
Ken Lauhoff was named the Personal Community Service Award winner; Karen Kay Summerville was named the Chamber Person of the Year; Golden Corral (Kevin and Shanna Murray) the Chamber Business of The Year.
Martha Berry received the Chamber Ambassador of the Year award for the third consecutive year and her Ambassador Chamber team “Diamonds Are Forever” was the Ambassador Team of The Year.
Midwest Quality Gloves & Gear won the Chamber Business Lighting Award for the second time.

The Chillicothe Hornets have three home games remaining. I mention this because local fans should not miss the opportunity to see senior guard Bryce Young. Young, who is a star athlete in football, basketball and baseball, is among the best as the school’s three-sport lettermen and certainly is among the top running backs to ever play at CHS (this is my personal opinion and I have watched Hornet teams since the 50’s.)
Just last week Young joined the elite list of Hornet cagers to score 34 or more points in a single game. How dominating was his 34 points in a 51-47 win last week? He scored 25 of Chillicothe’s 27 points in the first half. The next night he tallied 24 and ended the three-game Cameron tournament with an average of 22 points game, a point better than his season average for 15 games.
Young is a classy guy, a gentleman and also a top student having made the Missouri High School All-Academic team in baseball last year. Hope you can get out to the high school to see Young and his teammates this Friday against Benton; Feb. 9 against Lawson and Feb. 12 in a home finale against Savannah.
There was also some exciting news coming from the Missouri State High School Activities Association who announced this past weekend the new alignment of football districts for the next two years. Chillicothe will see some new faces in its District which will consist of St. Pius, Maryville and Cameron.
Savannah and Smithville, who were in Class 3 with Chillicothe and Cameron the past two years, moved to Class 4 District 16 with Savannah playing with Platte County, Benton and Lafayette. Smithville will be in Class 4 District 15 with Kearney, the new Liberty North School that will open this fall and Excelsior Springs.
Hamilton also moved up a class and will compete with Bishop LeBlond, Trenton and Plattsburg. Hamilton won the state 1-A title last fall and Maryville won the Class 2 crown.

Dr. George Meinershagen of Indian Hills had a double weekend birthday event. He said his son Jim and wife Verna of Troy, Mich., and his granddaughter Julia of Seattle got through the weather and spent Friday and Saturday with him as he celebrated his 97th birthday.
Friday evening there was a hosted dinner event at the Alaska House and on Saturday morning there was birthday cake and ice cream at Indian Hills.
On a very personal note, Lou Trinidad, wife of Dr. H.R. Trinidad, retired, was visiting with my daughter a week ago about a theft of personal property and was inquiring if I might put something in my column.
Here’s the story, Lou, her husband and some other friends were at the Elks for their Friday night buffet on Jan. 8. The place was packed and Mrs. Trinidad put her purse on the floor at the table where they were seated. Later she discovered her purse and all of its contents were missing. They reported the theft to the Elks and police and searched the grounds around the Elks building to no avail.
Here’s the important part of this message. Inside her purse were credit cards, driver’s license, cash, checkbook, etc., along with one very precious and personal item.
She had a Rosary from Pope Paul II during the silver jubilee year in 2000. It had been blessed by the Pope and she would love to have it back, no questions asked. The credit cards ad other accounts all have been reported as stolen and cancelled, but Mrs. Trinidad is pleading and praying for the person who stole her purse just to return the sacred Rosary.
If you happen to see a black leather shoulder purse with two smaller pocket purses on the outside, please contact the Trinidad’s.
Look in this week’s edition for two bright yellow flyers.
One is an exclusive insert from Domino’s Pizza in Chillicothe with valuable coupons plus an entry form for you to enter Domino’s Pizza Super Bowl contest and the chance to win $25.
The other yellow insert is chuck-full of information about the third annual North Missouri Outdoor Classic that will be held on Feb. 13-14 at the Chillicothe High School. Be sure to check the listed events, seminars, programs and outdoor contests.
We send greetings to the following who are celebrating birthdays from Feb. 3 through Feb. 9—Lou Trinidad, Dale Bishop, Deanna Kepner, Mary Lightner, Loraine Roark.
